Miscellaneous Information
John was born in Vernon, B.C. on 23 January 1917. His father was born in England and worked as a Building Contractor and his mother was born in Scotland. He had one sister, Gladys and they lived at 319 Hankey Street, Vernon. The schools he attended were Vernon Elementary 1924-1932 followed by Vernon High 1932-1936 where he took his Graduation subjects. He then went on to University where he studied a pre- medical course 1936-1938. His sporting interests were hunting, skiing and tennis as well as swimming, skating etc. He built model aeroplanes as a hobby. He worked for a couple of months in 1938 as a fruit trucker and enlisted on 17 July 1940. |
After initial training John embarked for the U.K. and arrived at 3 PRC on 2 May 1941. He went on to 10 OTU 18 August 1941 and arrived at 405 Squadron on 25 September 1941. |
