Miscellaneous Information
His body was up on the Frisian island of Nordeney, where he was initially buried. Re-interred in Sage in April 1947. |
Known as Leo. He was born in Brighton on 21st October 1918. He had a younger brother and three sisters, two of which were WAAFs. His family moved to Birmingham in 1922 and lived in Alum Rock. Leo got the flying 'bug' when he attended an air show at Castle Bromwich, where he saved up 2/6d for a flight of a few minutes. Joined the Fleet Air Arm in approximately 1936 and served aboard HMS Eagle in the China Seas prior to the war. |
One of his sisters, Veronica, was working in the office of the Dead and Missing Airmen’s effects and was one of the first in the family to learn of his death. During compassionate leave, she informed the rest of the family. |
