Miscellaneous Information
Adelbert was born on 21 June 1921 at Millet, Alberta. His father was born at East Jordan, Michigan, USA and was a farmer, his mother was born at Manford Wells, North Dakota, USA. He had a sister Marion Ruth and a brother Thomas Bateman. He attended the Millet Public School 1927-1935 followed by the High School, 1935-1939 in Alberta. These were followed by the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art, Calgary, 1939-1941, and Edmonton Technical High School 1941-1942, as well as Aero Industries Technical Institute in 1942. The sports he joined in were hockey, softball and football. During the summer holidays Adelbert worked as a farm hand for A. Rogne 1935-1940 at Millet. He was also the Foreman of the fabric and doping department at Aircraft and Repair limited. |
He enlisted on 12 November 1942 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944, arriving at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 15 March. He then continued to 1(O) AFU on 9 May 1944, 22 OTU 13 June 1944, 61 Base 30 August 1944, 1666 CU 13 September 1944 and 408 Squadron on 31 October 1944. Sadly Adelbert then lost his life on 21 November 1944 |

Operation | Castrop Rauxel synthetic oil plant. 273 aircraft, 4 losses (1.5%). The local report states that 216 high explosive bombs hit the target along with 78 duds and many incendiaries. The resulting fire was so large that the fire-fighters could only allow it to burn out by itself. Some other local industry was also hit. |
