Reason for Loss | Attacked over the target area by an enemy fighter and sustained much damage. The rear gunner was mortally wounded and the wireless operator was injured in one hand. The pilot (P/O P Buck) was able to evade further attacks and set course for base but the aircraft was difficult to handle and then when one engine cut, it began to lose height. He gave the order to jettison all moveable items and the height was then maintained for sufficient time to safely regain the base. Buck effected a perfect crash landing and no further injuries were sustained. |
