Reason for Loss | T/O 16:10 West Raynham with three scientific officers on board. At 30000', flew into a cumulus cloud leading to a catastrophic fall in temperature in the cabin. The aircraft went into a steep dive and the pilot lost control. Some control was briefly regained but by then the failure of the airframe was inevitable. The aircraft disintegrated at 17:10. Wreckage fell over a very wide area in the vicinity of Catterick. Only one of the medical officers was able to bail out. |
