John was born on 11 May 1924 at Roche Percee, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Scotland and was a Machinist, his mother was also born in Scotland. He had one sister, Mary Ann. The schools he attended were Sarah Maxwell, Memorial, Montreal 1929-1937 followed by Commercial High, Montreal. 1937-1941. His hobby was model aircraft and he joined in most of the sports. John worked as a clerk for C.P.Railway, Montreal until enlisting on 12 January 1943. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 30 March 1944, reaching 3 PRC on 3 April 1944. He was at 7(0) AFU on 30 May 1944, 82 OTU on 4 July 1944, 61 Base 30 August 1944, 1664 CU 13 September 1944 and 428 Squadron 25 October 1944. Sadly, John was to lose his life on 5 December 1944. |
