Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Essex, Ontario on 15 October 1924. Both parents were born in Essex and his father was a farmer. He had two brothers David and Glen and a sister Joyce. He attended S.S. No.11 school at Maidstone, 1931-1939 followed by Essex High school, 1939-1942 (general and business). John enjoyed playing soccer, baseball, basketball, football,and hockey. Between 1942-1943 he worked with his father on the farm until enlisting on 6 April 1943. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 24 November 1943. He embarked at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 2 December 1943 then continued to 12 OTU 28 December 1943, 31 Base 25 February 1944, and 115 Squadron on 25 May 1944. Sadly John was to lose his life aged just nineteen years old, on 30 August 1944. |

Operation | Stettin. 403 aircraft, 23 lost (5.7%). A successful raid, causing damage to areas not bombed on previous raids. The local report states that 1569 houses and 32 industrial premises were badly damaged. One ship was sunk and seven others damaged. 1033 people were killed and 1034 were injured. |
