Miscellaneous Information
Alfred was born at Toronto on 18 July 1920. Both of his parents were born in London, England and his father worked as a paint blender/stripper. He had a brother Herbert and two sisters. The schools he attended were: Dufferin 1927-1934 (General), Dufferin Commercial 1934-1935 (Commercial), and Danforth Technical 1935-1936 (general industrial). The sports he took part in were mostly track and field events. Alfred worked as a Messenger for CPR Telegraph in Toronto, 1936-1938, then as a clerk for Sheppard Drugs in Toronto 1938-1939, and finally R.D. Fachnie also in Toronto as a Candy Maker 1939-1941 until enlisting. |
He enlisted on 2 July 1941 and after training, embarked from New York on 3 August 1943 arriving in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 12 August. From here he went to 6 (0) AFU 31 August 1943, 22 OTU on 19 October 1943, 61 Base 25 January 1944 and 420 Squadron on 14 March 1944. The following month on 25 April 1944, Alfred very sadly lost his life. |
