Miscellaneous Information
Lloyd was born on 22 May 1923 at New Liskeard, Ontario. His father was a farmer born at Cornwall, Ontario and his mother was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He had one brother - Private M. G. Raymond. He went to school at Muriel Creek S.D. 1930-1937 (Grade 8). For sport he occasionally played Baseball. Lloyd took on odd jobs between 1937-1940. He spent about a year between 1940 and 1941 working as a farm hand for M. Russell of Edgerton, Alberta, and then another three months in 1941 as a blacksmith for P. Perkins. |
He enlisted on 25 July 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K..He embarked from New York on 9 March 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 18 March 1943 then went on to 12 OTU 13 April 1943, 1651 CU 24 June 1943, and 15 Squadron on 21 July 1943. Sadly this young man was to lose his life just two months later on 23 September 1943. |

Operation | Mannheim- to bomb the northern part of the city which had not sustained much damage in raids earlier this month. 628 aircraft and the now familiar five American B-17s. 32 aircraft Lost (5.1%). Target marking and bombing were accurate but some creepback took place, meaning that towards the end of the raid, bombs were falling in open countryside and into Ludwigshafen, causing significant damage to the I. G. Farben chemical plant. The neighbouring town of Frankenthal was completely burnt out. |
