Miscellaneous Information
Ralph was born on 12 September 1917 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. His father was born in Sebright, Ontario and worked as a bricklayer and his mother was born near Bruce Mines, Ontario and was deceased by the time of Ralph's enlistment. He had brothers Walter, Ernest, Charles, Edgar and John and nine year old step-brother (William Bruce). He also had sister’s Marjorie and Elinor. Ralph attended Central School , Soo, 1923-1932 and Soo Collegiate 1932-1934 (General). He took a Special Course in Maths and science at Soo Collegiate. During 1930-1932 he was a seaman in the Navy League, Soo and then a Sgt.in the Collegiate Cadet Corps 1932-1934, Soo. The sports he took part in were hockey, softball, basketball and hunting was his hobby. He worked as a labourer July-December 1935; a porter for Canadian Steamship Lines 1936-1937; as a clerk at the Duke of Windsor Cigar Store 1937-1939 and as a labourer again 1940-1941. |
Ralph enlisted on 17 October 1941 and after training embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 1 June 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC on 13 June 1942, 3 AGS 31 July 1942, 23 OTU 25 August 1942, 1659 CU 17 December 1942 and 426 Squadron on 17 January 1943. Ralph sadly lost his life the following month on 19 February 1943 |

Operation | Wilhelmshaven. 338 aircraft, 12 losses (3.6%). The second failed operation on Wilhelmshaven in as many nights. PFF marking was inaccurate, leading to the majority of the bombing taking place to the north. It was later found that PFF had out of date maps and a exercise of updating the maps was undertaken. |
