Miscellaneous Information
The rear-gunner, F/S R Hunter, was the very last Bomber Command prisoner of war, being in captivity for less than one week. Although almost all printed sources state that the pilot, F/L L H Currell, also became a PoW, his own account states that despite being injured, he evaded capture with the assistance of some French forced labourers and was able to reach British forces. He states that he was repatriated on 8 May 1945 and was taken to RAF Hospital Wroughton, arriving on the morning of the 9th. |
