Miscellaneous Information
Born in Coventry on 10 June 1914. Norman was educated at the Junior Technical College and later employed by British Thompson Houston Ltd. as a metallurgical chemist, leaving the firm when he enlisted in September 1939. His work at the firm enabled him to become a Freeman of the City in 1935. The family had previously lived at 6, Irving Road, Coventry. |

Reason for Loss | The aircraft departed Topcliffe at 2230 hrs. It was initially coned for three minutes by "Werfer 62" of 6/III/Flakscheinw Rgt 1 and "Werfer 87" of 8/III/Flakscheinw Rgt 1. It was subsequently intercepted above Rotem by a Nightfighter captained by Lt. Kurt Loos of 2./NJG1 and shot down at 0234 hrs on 17 May - his 1st "Abschuss". The aircraft crashed near Rotem, Limburg Province. Three of the crew were killed, two became PoWs. |
