Miscellaneous Information
Edward was born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 8 September 1918, one of five children. His father was a hardware merchant and was born at St. Mary’s, Ontario and his mother was born in England. His brothers were John and Thomas and his sisters: Olive and Mabel. He attended Victoria Public School, Regina 1924-1931 (Primary), Central Col. Regina 1931-1935 (High school) and Regina College, 1935-1936 (maths and economics). These were followed by Toronto University 1936-1940 where he gained a Bachelor of Commerce degree (commerce and financial). His sport interests were golf, swimming, volleyball, basketball and badminton. Edward worked as a Hardware clerk for his father, T. W. Peart Ltd., 1930-1940, and then for the Hudson Bay Company, Vancouver, 1940-1941 (Merchandise, Clerical). |
After Enlisting on 29 September 1941 and initial training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 28 October 1942. After arrival at 3PRC on 6 November 1942 he went to 6 AOS on 22 December 1942, PRC Bournemouth on 23 February 1943, 22 OTU 9 March 1943 and 429 Squadron 29 May 1943. He had married just nine days earlier. Sadly Edward was to lose his life the following month on 25 June 1943. |

Operation | Wuppertal. 630 aircraft, 34 losses (5.4%). An attack on the Elberfeld half of the town- the Barmen half having been devastated a month ago. PFF marking was accurate but creepback was more evident than normal. A post-war British survey suggest that 95% of the Elberfeld half was destroyed. Approximately 1800 deaths, 300 homes destroyed and 171 businesses knocked out. |
