Translation "An air tragedy took place near this site on Thursday 26 March 1942 at around 11.55pm. A British Wellington bomber was shot down by a German nightfighter and came down in this area. The Wellington MK IC belonged to 214 Sqn RAF Bomber Command. The plane had taken off from Stradishall Air Base that same evening at around 8pm (UK time) for a bombing raid on Essen. That night, the bomber managed to reach its target and the bomb load was dropped. The Wellington with fuselage code BU-G and registration number Z1143 was manned by six crew members.
