Miscellaneous Information
Gordon was born at Montreal on 2 September 1923. His parents were both born in Newfoundland and his father (deceased) worked as a machinist. Gordon was from a large family of ten children. He had four sisters plus five brothers. The schools he attended were Riverside Pointe St. Charles School in Quebec 1928-1935 (primary) and Streatham High school, Montreal 1935-1937. He worked at the International Correspondence School, Montreal as an office clerk between 1937-1939 and then as an office clerk for C.N.R. from 1939 -1942. Gordon was involved in most sports. |
He enlisted on 18 September 1942 and after initial training embarked from New York on 8 October 1943 and arriving at 3PRC on 17 October 1943. He was then at 24 OTU on 26 October 1943, 61 Base 9 February 1944 and 427 Squadron on 8 April 1944. Gordon sadly lost his life on 13 June 1944. |

Operation | Arras- to attack lines of communication. Part of a 671 aircraft force to further hamper lines of communications leading to the Normandy area. Cambrai and Caen attacks were scattered but Amiens, Arras and Poitiers were accurate. 23 aircraft were Lost (3.4%) including that of Charles Mynarski VC, the subject of the Canadian Lancaster 'Vera'. |
