Donald was born in Elnora, Alberta on 16 May 1922. His father was born in Wisconsin and worked as a farmer and his mother was born in Manitoba. He had two brothers Percival and William and sisters, Minnie, Florence, Mildred and Glenna. He attended schools in Elnora 1928-1938 . High School Entrance Grade X and 2 years Jnr.Matric. Donald also took a correspondence course in radio and television. His sport interests were baseball, hockey, tennis and curling and his hobby was radio and wireless. Donald worked as a butter-maker between 1940-1942 |
He enlisted on 5 August 1942 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 20 January 1944. He reached 3 PRC 1 February 1944, 12 OTU 22 February 1944, 31 Base 19 May 1944 and 115 Squadron on 22 July 1944. |
