Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born at Montreal on 15 January 1924. His father, an Advertising Manager for Maclean’s Magazine, was born in Orillia, Ontario and his mother was born in Montreal. He had two brothers Oliver in the RCAF overseas and James. The schools he attended were Oriole Park, Toronto 1932-1939 followed by North Toronto School, 1939-1941. Thomas enjoyed sports and played them all extensively including hockey, rugby etc. From 1941 onwards he worked as a Stock Chaser for Parker Pen of Toronto. |
He enlisted on 8 January 1943 and after training, embarked from Halifax on 14 December 1943 for the U.K. He arrived at 3 (RCAF)PRC on 22 December 1943, 28 OTU 18 January 1944, 27 OTU on 23 February 1944, 61 Base 6 June 1944 and 433 Squadron on 15 July 1944. Thomas very sadly lost his life only two weeks later on 29 July 1944. |
His brother Oliver was also in England and Thomas, who was due some leave, had been hoping to meet up with him. |

Operation | Hamburg. 307 aircraft. German night-fighters appeared on the return leg leading to 22 losses (7.2%). This was the first raid on Hamburg for a year and was not well concentrated. The Germans were unable to determine the aiming point from the bombing results. Most of the bombs fell on areas devastated during 1943. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down by night fighter pilot Leutnant Rolf Ebhardt, of 8./NJG 1. Crashed at Prinzenmoor, WSW of Jevenstedt, Germany. Ebhardt made three claims on this night. |
