Edward was born at Pendleton, Oregon on 12 February 1920, USA. His father was born at Minnesota and worked in the automobile industry and his mother was born in Iowa. He had one brother, Jack (John William). The schools where Edward studied were: Lincoln school, 1927-1934 (Graduation) Pendleton Senior High 1934- 1938 (Graduation), Oregon State College 1938-1941 (engineering) and Easton, Oregon, College of Education 1940-1941 (General). Edward’s sport interests were boxing, football, and swimming and he enjoyed boating and motorcycling as hobbies. As he was still a student he didn’t have a full-time occupation but helped out during the vacations at Olsen and King and as a Property manager at Happy Canyon. |
Edward enlisted on 30 April 1941 (while the United States was still neutral) at Vancouver and after training embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 9 December 1941. He arrived at 3PRC on 18 December 1941 and then went to 3 SFTS 9 February 1942, 22 OTU on 24 March 1942 and 405 Squadron on 13 September 1942. Very sadly Edward lost his life the following month on 1 October 1942. |
