Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 26 September 1922 at Watson, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Belfast, Ireland and was the manager of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and his mother was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He had a brother Ronald James and two sisters, Eileen Ethel and Anna Geraldine. The schools he attended were Watson Public School, Watson, Saskatchewan 1928-1935 (General) and Watson High 1935-1939 (Jnr. Matric and part High). His sporting interests were hockey, swimming, baseball and tennis. William worked at the Canadian Bank of Commerce, Killarney, as a Ledger Keeper and Teller, 1939-1940, and as a clerk at Vancouver Pile Driving Co.1940-1942. |
He then enlisted on 27 March 1942 and after basic training embarked for the U.K. on 26 January 1943. He was at 3 PRC on 5 February 1943, 3(0)AFU 8 June 1943, 24 OTU on 13 July 1943, 1659 CU 20 October 1943, 434 Sqn 29 November 1943 and 405 Squadron 26 March 1944. Sadly the following month, 23 April 1944, William was to lose his life. |
