Miscellaneous Information
Harold was born on 12 March 1911 at Lot 7 Baie St.Paul, Québec. His father was a farmer and both parents were born in Minnesota, USA. He had three brothers John, Vick and Glen and six sisters, Alma, Ellen, Shirley, Rhoda, Frances and Thora. Harold went to Hatton School 1922-1926 (General) and again from 1926-1928. The sports he enjoyed were ball, shooting and skiing. He worked for his father on the farm 1928-1935 and during the winter 1933-1935 he also worked as a mail carrier but the work was not steady and he left when the route was changed. Harold then bought his own land to farm in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan 1936-1941. In all he spent 3 years as a mail carrier and 12 years in farming. |
Harold enlisted on 10 July 1941, embarking from Canada for the U.K. on 14 December 1942. He then went to 3 PRC on 22 December 1943, 61 Base 4 February 1944 and 419 Squadron on 16 March 1944. Two months later on 13 May 1944 Harold sadly lost his life. |

Operation | Leuven/ Louvain- to bomb railway yards. 120 aircraft, 5 losses (4.2%). A more accurate bombing raid than the previous night with considerable damage to the yards. According to the local report, repairs were still being carried out some six months later. Civilian casualties were heavy with 160 deaths and 208 injured. Part of the local University, 8 factories, 4 convents and a church were also damaged |
