He was educated locally at Stoke Council School. Whilst at school William showed great promise as a runner and when attending the Junior Technical School gained the Victor Ludorum Cup 1933 1934 and furthered his education at Coventry Technical College being employed at Armstrong Siddeley Motors Ltd, completing his apprenticeship in late 1939. He resided at 166, Harefield Road, Stoke with his parents. William was one of the first Coventry men to join the Volunteer Reserve on the 12th June, 1937. William was killed ten days short of his 22nd birthday. |
