Reason for Loss | On 15th August 1940 there was a German air raid on Driffield airfield. At approximately midday, around 50 Ju 88 bombers attacked the aerodrome, killing 13 military personnel and 1 civilian, and destroying 12 Whitley aircraft. The 169 bombs dropped caused extensive damage, with many buildings, including all five hangars, being either damaged or destroyed. |
