Miscellaneous Information
Ian was born on 10 June 1925 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Both parents were born in Scotland and his father worked as a mechanic. The schools he attended were King George Public, Saskatchewan, 1931-1937 (general), Richmond High, Vancouver 1937-1942 (grade 9). He was also a L/Cpl in the Seaforth Cadets 1940-1942 and in the 39th Field RCA, Vancouver 1942-1943. He enjoyed swimming. Ian worked as a printer for Les Horner, Vancouver 1942-1943 and as a truck driver for Canadian Canners during 1943 until enlistment on 27 August 1943. |
After initial training, Ian embarked from Halifax on 3 May 1944 and arrived in the U.K. at 3 RCAF PRC on 11 May 1944. He went on to 82 OTU on 6 June 1944, 61 Base 30 August 1944 and 426 Squadron 20 October 1944. Ian was only nineteen years old when he lost his life on 5 December 1944. |
