| William was born on 2 April 1917 at Vancouver, Bitish Columbia the son of William Murphy and Pansy Myrtle Murphy (MacTaggart) of Vancouver. His father was born in Banffshire, Scotland and works as a Fire Chief in the city of North Vancouver, and his mother was born in Hensall, Ontario. He went to the Queen Mary school 1926-1934 (general) and to North Vancouver High 1934-1936 (High School Entrance). He also went to the Government Auto Mechanics school to study car mechanics. His sport interests were swimming, tennis, soccer, and Lacrosse. During 1936-1937 he was working in a stockroom. He then became a checker for an oil company during 1937, was a timekeeper for a Mining and Smelting company 1938-1939 and became a Tinsmith’s helper at Bernard Dry Dock from 1940 until enlistment on 6 March 1941. |
| After initial training in Canada, William was sent to the U.K. and arrived at 3PRC on 27 March 1942, he then went to 20 OTU 16 June 1942, 214 Sqn 23 August 1942. and 115 Squadron 28 September 1942. Sadly the following month, 29 October 1942, William lost his life. |
