Miscellaneous Information
Born at Toronto on 20 February 1923. His father, an architect, was born in Scotland and his mother at St Catherine’s , Ontario. (his mother’s Christian name was Helen but she is always shown as Nellie). He had sisters Jean and Rita and another sister, Margaret, had died in 1935. There are also three half brothers shown: Lieut. J.C. Morton, RCA Petawawa, Corporal G. Morton, RCAF Gander and a Major J.F. Brennan in Ottawa. John attended Corpus Christi Separate School 1930-1936 (Entrance), Humberside Collegiate 1936-1942 (Matric). His sport interests were swimming, tennis and baseball. He worked as assistant to a Land Surveyor at Speight Van Nostrand and worked as a part time clerk 1937-1941 for Loblaw Grocetarias . |
John enlisted on 22 April 1942 and at the end of his training embarked from Halifax on 30 June 1943. On arrival at 3PRC on 8 July 1943 he went on to 18 (P) AFU 17 August 1943, 12 OTU. 14 December 1943, 31 Base 17 March 1944 and 90 Squadron 18 May 1944. It was from there on the 29 July 1944 that John sadly lost his life. |
