Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born at Sault St. Marie, Ontario on 14 March 1915. His mother, born in Finland, died in 1924 and his father was a retired Real Estate Agent born at Thesalon, Ontario. He had a step mother Zulin but they had been separated since 1933. He had a brother Duncan David who also joined the RCAF and was at Fingal, Ontario. There were also two half blood sisters Grace and Ruth. He attended the Public School Sault St. Marie between 1923-1938. Thomas also went to various other schools to seek his training. He started at Hobart Brothers Factory school as a welder & machinist in Troy, Ohio. He then returned to Canada and continued his training as a welder/machinist in metallic roofing with four other companies. He ended the training at Marion Crane Company in Ohio. |
He enlisted on 18 August 1942and after training was posted to the U.K. After embarking from Halifax on 24 November 1943 he arrived at 3PRC on 2 December 1943, 10 (0) AFU 22 February 1944, 10 OTU 28 March 1944, 41 Base 16 June 1944 and 76 Squadron on 17 August 1944. It was from there that Thomas sadly lost his life on 9 October 1944. |
