Miscellaneous Information
Wesley was born on 23 March 1923 at Lachine, Province of Québec. His father, who worked as a Real Estate Agent, was born at Waterloo, P.Q and his mother was born in England. His next of kin is shown on his enlistment papers as a Miss S. Morey, his sister. It is not clear from his papers how many siblings he had but he certainly had a brother - Private Stanley Morey, who had been overseas for 3 years with the Canadian Tank Corps. He attended Brigham School, in Brigham P.Q. between 1929 and 1937 and then Cowansville High School, P.Q. 1939-1941 (Cowansville). Between 1937 and 1939 Wesley was unemployed. His hobby was photography and he played baseball and enjoyed skiing. |
Wesley enlisted on 26 August 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 7 August 1942 and arrived at 3 PRC on 19 August. He then went to 11 (P) AFU 29 August 1942, 14 OTU 20 October 1942, 1651 CU 25 February 1943 and 90 Squadron 4 April 1943. Sadly Wesley was to lose his life on 13 May 1943. |

Last Operation Information
Start Date | 12-05-1943 |
End Date | 13-05-1943 |
Takeoff Station | Ridgewell |
Day/Night Raid | Night (56% moon) |
Operation | Duisburg. 572 aircraft, 34 losses (5.9%). Near-perfect PFF marking lead to highly concentrated bombing and a significant improvement on the three preceding recent raids on Duisburg. The centre and port areas of the city were badly damaged, including four of the August Thyssen steel plants. Such was the success of this raid that no further raids were planned on Duisburg for some time. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down by a night-fighter and crashed into the Ijsselmeer |
