Miscellaneous Information
Richard was born at Windsor, Ontario on 6 June 1913. His parents were both born at Maidstone, Ontario and his father was a retired tool maker. He had a brother Vincent who lived in Detroit, Michigan. The schools he attended were St.Joseph’s, Windsor (1920-1928), Assumption School (1928-1930), followed by Patterson Collegiate Institute (1930 - 1932) -all in Windsor. His sporting interests were, bowling, swimming and baseball. Richard worked as an Orderly at Highland Park Hospital in 1932 and then held a variety of posts with various employers between 1932 - 1936. These included Stock Clerk, shipping clerk etc, in both Detroit and Windsor. Between 1936-1938 he worked for the National Biscuit Company as a Receiving clerk, then fruit farming for a year in Washington and as a Waiter for six months. He finally spent four years as a Welder/Assembler for the Chrysler Company, 1939-1943. |
He enlisted on 26 July 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 30 March 1944 arriving at 3(RCAF) PRC on 8 April 1944, 12 OTU on 16 May 1944, 31 Base 1 September 1944 and 214 Squadron on 26 September 1944, Sadly Richard was to lose his life on 16 November 1944. |
