Miscellaneous Information
Frederick was born in Blackburn, England on 6 April 1914. Very sadly he had lost both parents before he was about ten years old, first his father then his mother. His father had been born in England and worked as a Commercial Traveller and his mother had been born in Stanley, Yorkshire. His next of kin on his enlistment papers is shown as a friend Hamish Campbell MacNeill. He attended school in England at Newhaven Elementary 1919-1926 and then Crossley & Porter Schools, 1926-1929 in Halifax, Yorkshire. For sports he occasionally played badminton, rugby and also swimming. His hobbies were woodwork, reading and mechanics. Frederick's occupations were labouring on farms, casual logging and fruit growing on his own farm 1939-1941. He then worked as a tool clerk at Boeing Aircraft, Vancouver until enlisting on 16 September 1941. |
After initial training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 30 December 1942. After arrival at 3PRC on 14 January 1943 he went on to 9 (0) AFU 24 May 1943, 24 OTU 29 June 1943, 1659 CU 5 October 1943, and 427 Squadron on 8 November 1943. Frederick sadly lost his life the following year on 18 April 1944. |

Operation | Noisy-le-Sec- to bomb marshalling yards. 181 aircraft. 4 Halifaxes Lost A successful raid with much damage being inflicted to the engine sheds and workshops. Delayed action bombs continued to explode for a week after the attack, hampering efforts to clear the site. 750 houses were destroyed, 464 people killed and 370 injured. |
