Miscellaneous Information
Francis was born at Grand Forks, British Columbia, on 13 December, 1907. His father was born in England and worked as a Merchant and his mother, who was deceased by the time of Francis's enlistment, was born in Winnipeg. He had a sister Agnes as well as three brothers James, Windsor and Aulay. He attended Grand Forks Public school 1913-1918 followed by Grand Forks High, 1919-1924-25. He enjoyed hunting, swimming and skating as well as skeet and trap shooting. Francis was then employed at C.M. & S. Co. Ltd. at Trail, British Colombia, working as a Furnaceman between 1925-1929, then at Kontnay Motors at Nelson, B.C as a Salesman, 1929-1932 and finally Nelson Transport, Transfer Company as a Salesman between 1933-1945 (shown as car salesman). |
He enlisted on 7 July 1943 and after training embarked from Halifax on 30 March 1944 arriving at 3 RCAF (PRC) on 8 April. He was then at 24 OTU 16 May 1944, 61 Base, 16 August 1944, and 408 Squadron 15 October 1944. Francis was to lose his life the following year on 15 March 1945. |
