| Born 30 November 1913 in Anerley, London. Baptised in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic church on 14 December 1913. Conal had an older brother Bernard. Their father was a Commercial Clerk and the family lived at 22A Tremaine Road in Anerley, Penge, London. Sadly, Conal's father died in 1918. Both Conal and his brother Bernard were educated at the St Joseph Convent of Mary Catholic Primary School in Haywards Heath. Their mother re-married in 1926 to Charles B. Robbins and they lived at 70, Bradenham Avenue, Welling, Kent. |

Tragically, an orphanage housed in a former Jewish hospital suffered a direct hit resulting in the death of 90 children, 14 nuns and some other members of staff |
