Miscellaneous Information
James was born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 2 February 1924. His father was born in Scotland and worked as a Janitor and his mother was born at Oxbow, Saskatchewan. He had younger siblings: a sister Doreen Edna and brother Donald Alan. He attended school at Albert, Regina, 1930-1938 (grade 8) followed by Scott Collegiate, Regina 1938-1942 (grade 12 , Snr. Matric). He liked to play hockey and baseball and enjoyed building model aircraft. James was a milkman and worked for Co-Op Creameries, Regina, in 1942. |
After enlisting on 4 September 1942 and initial training, he embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 22 October 1943 where he arrived at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 31 October. He then went to 8 (0) AFU 1 February 1944, 24 OTU 7 March 1944, 61 Base 25 May 1944, 1666 HCU 1 June 1944 and 427 Squadron on 30 June 1944. Sadly James, at the age of twenty, lost his life the following month on 29 July 1944. |

Operation | Hamburg. 307 aircraft. German night-fighters appeared on the return leg leading to 22 losses (7.2%). This was the first raid on Hamburg for a year and was not well concentrated. The Germans were unable to determine the aiming point from the bombing results. Most of the bombs fell on areas devastated during 1943. |
