Miscellaneous Information
Verne was born on 18 August 1922 at Vancouver, British Columbia. His father was born at Victoria, B.C. and worked as a Foreman and his mother was born in London, England. He had a brother Donald and two sisters Marge (Marjorie) and Donna. His mother later re-married and shown as Edna Murrow, living in USA. The schools he attended were Queen Mary 1929-1937, Dawson Public 1937-1939 and King George High 1939-1940 (grade 8), (he reached Grade 11.) The sports he took part in were football, baseball and track and his hobbies, hunting and shooting. Between 1940-1941 Verne worked in sheet metal at Burrard Shipyard, then was employed as a Seaman, towing 1941-1942. He was also shown as a Seaman working on Imperial Oil Tankers, 1942-1943. |
He enlisted on 13 April 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 20 January 1944, arriving at 3 RCAF PRC on 1 February 1944 before going on to 82 OTU 29 February 1944, 61 Base 6 June 1944 and 426 Squadron on 6 July 1944. Verne sadly lost his life on 30 September 1944. |
