Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 8 January 1918 at Revelstoke, British Columbia. His father was born at Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia and worked as a Merchant and his mother was born in Seattle, Washington, USA. He had three brothers, Leo, Donald and Thomas and sisters Bernice and Laverne. He attended Revelstoke Public School and Revelstoke High (no dates shown in his enlistment papers). He also studied Engineering between 1936-1940. His sport interests included hockey, skiing, hunting and golf. Both golf and ski jumping were played extensively. William worked as a rodman and also did office work for F.H. Allwood and then as a rodman for the Provincial Government- both in Revelstoke. |
He enlisted on 28 December 1940 and after training embarked for the U.K. from Canada on 3 November 1941. He arrived at 3 PRC on 14 November 1941, then at 1SS.20 January 1942, 10 OTU 24 March 1942 and at 102 Squadron 9 July 1942. The following month on 6 August 1942, William very sadly lost his life. |
