Miscellaneous Information
Leslie was born on 30 January 1918 at Mundare, Alberta. His father was born at Renfrew, Ontario and was a farmer and his mother, deceased, was born in Scotland. He had one brother and five sisters. The schools he attended were: Mundare Public, 1924-1931, Mundare High School 1931-1934 (Jnr. Matric), Alberta College 1934-1935 (Snr. Matric). He then studied at the University of Alberta 1936-1937 and McGill University 1937-1939 (Physical Education) Diploma of P.E. His hobbies were hunting and sports and the sports included gym work, skiing, skating, basketball and softball. Leslie spent five years in the 19th Dragoons, Alberta, between 1936-1941 where he was the troop commander. Leslie worked for his father between 1939-1941 where he was Manager of the farm estate. |
He enlisted on 21 April 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC on 12 May 1942 then was at 9(0) AFU on 27 July 1942, 20 OTU on 25 August 1942, and 196 Squadron 18 November 1942. Leslie sadly lost his life on 30 March 1943. |
