Miscellaneous Information
Donald was born on 18 May 1923 at Bellevue, Alberta. His father was born in Galicia and worked as a Coal miner (died 1940) and his mother was born at Shawinigan Falls, Québec. Donald’s next of kin is shown as his uncle, William Musteca. He attended Bellevue Public School 1929-1939 followed by Bellevue High, 1939-1941. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and softball. Donald worked at West Canada Collieries as a Narrow Gauge brake man between 1941-1942 and then enlisted on 2 December 1942. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 24 November 1943. He arrived at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 2 December 1943 then proceeded through 12 OTU on 11 January 1944, 31 Base 10 March 1944, 1678 CU 14 April 1944, and finally 514 Squadron on 9 June 1944. Donald then sadly lost his life on 21 July 1944. |

Operation | Homberg- Meerbeck oil plant. 158 aircraft (149 Lancasters and 11 Mosquitoes) of which 20 Lancasters were downed, mainly due to night-fighter activity. Caused severe damage to the plant, resulting in output dropping from 6000 tones of fuel per day to as little as 120. The 8th Air Force also hit this target. |
