Takeoff Station | West Raynham |

Operation | To patrol Mauberge area. Abandoned due to engine problems NE of Laon. Both crew members survived and evaded capture. F/O Mamoutoff was killed when German troops (Ukrainian volunteers led by SS officers) attacked the French maquis of Saint-Mards-en-Othe. |
Reason for Loss | F/O van den Plassche, the pilot, was able to escape via the Pyrenees, Spain and then Gibraltar and was back at base within two months. He presented the WAAF who packed his parachute with a bottle of French perfume when we arrived back at base. Tragically, he was killed nine years later serving with his native Belgian Air Force. |
