Miscellaneous Information
James was born on 6 July 1917 at Prince Edward Island. His father was born at Harmony Junction, P.E.I. and was a farmer and was deceased by the time of James's enlistment. His mother was born at Charlottetown. He had two sisters and six brothers. The schools he attended were Souris Line Road, School 1924-1935 ( Grade 10) and Prince Wales College, Charlottetown, 1935-1936 (Jnr. Matric). The sport he was interested in was baseball. Between 1935-1941 he worked on the farm with his mother and then worked in Souris as a bookkeeper for T.J.Kickham, October-December 1941. James then went on to work for Simpson Co.Halifax Nova Scotia as a Receiver in the mail order department, 1941-1942. |
He enlisted on 17 January 1942 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 28 October 1942 arriving at 3 PRC on 5 November 1942. He was at 23 OTU on 8 December 1942, 1659 CU 25 March 1943 and 408 Squadron on 11 April 1943. |

Operation | Krefeld. 705 aircraft, 44 losses (6.2%) with night-fighters counting for most of the losses (the night was moonlit). PFF marking was near-perfect (using Oboe). A large fire in the centre of Krefeld raged unchecked for many hours. Over 5500 houses destroyed, 1056 people killed and 72000 bombed out of their homes. |
