Miscellaneous Information
Dermot was born on 22 August 1918 in Bedford, England. His father was born in County Cork, Ireland and was a civil engineer, and his mother was born in Worcestershire. His father died in 1919 aged 46 and is buried in the British Military Cemetery in Salonika, Greece. Dermot had five brothers: Francis Leader, living in Shrewsbury. John Leader Temple in C.I.G. Mission in Bangalore. Alexander George in Sydney, Australia. Hubert Reagh in Princeton, B.C and Gerald in Rockhampton. Queensland, Australia. Dermot had a varied schooling attending Cambridge, England 1924-1925, and then In Sydney, Australia between 1925-1928. He finished at Port Harvey Central School in British Columbia 1928-1933 (General). His sport interests were riding, hunting and skiing. As a hobby he liked to build model aeroplanes. Between 1933 -1936 Dermot worked on his brother’s Ranch. He then owned and operated the ranch himself between 1936 -1942. |
Dermot enlisted on 7 January 1943 and after initial training embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944. Arriving at 3PRC on 15 March 1944, 82 OTU 21 March 1944, 61 Base 6 June 1944, and 432 Squadron 14 July 1944. Just two months later Dermot was to lose his life. |
