Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 18 May 1921 at Amherst, Nova Scotia. His father was born in Harvey Bank, New Brunswick and worked as a guard for Canadian Car and Foundry, his mother was born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. George had two sisters Veronica Margaret and Ina Lorraine, who sadly died in 1934. He attended Spring Street School, Amherst, 1928-1940 where he completed Grade 9 and part grade 10 (Entrance) and two years High School (Junior Matric). The sports he had participated in were baseball, hockey, basketball and skating and his hobby was woodworking. Like his father, George also worked at Canada Car and Foundry, Amherst, where he was an Equipment Assistant (aircraft factory), between 1940-1942. |
George enlisted on 30 July 1942 and after training embarked from Halifax on 23 June 1943. He arrived at 3 PRC in England, 2 July 1943, 28 OTU 9 July 1943, 1656 CU 12 August 1943, 156 Sqn. 12 October 1943 and finally 582 Squadron 28 April 1944. |
