Miscellaneous Information
Hugh was born in Belfast, Ireland on 11 March 1914. Both parents were born in Belfast where his father was a hairdresser. He had siblings Henry, Gerald, Joseph and Elizabeth. He attended St. Patrick’s Christian Brothers School in Belfast and later, spent one year at night school in Montreal and a month at Toronto University. Hugh worked for the department store T. Eaton Co. Ltd .between 1931-1934 and then intermittently between 1935-1939 until he enlisted. He had also spent one year as a receiving clerk-timekeeper at the Hotel Norton Palmer. |
He enlisted on 15 September 1939 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944 arriving at 3 PRC on 15 March from whence he went to 82 OTU on 28 March 1944, 61 Base 6 June 1944 and 424 Squadron on 10 July 1944. Sadly Hugh then lost his life on 15 October 1944. |
