Miscellaneous Information
Douglas was born on 21 October 1924 at Waterloo, Ontario. His father was born in Czechoslovakia and worked as an upholsterer, his mother was born at Bansburg, Ontario. He had a sister Elizabeth and brothers Walter, Harry, Raymond (in the Canadian Army) and Clayton (also in Canadian Army). The schools he attended were St. Louis Separate School, Waterloo, Ontario, 1929-1937, and St. Jerome's College, Kitchener, Ontario, 1937-1940. The sports he took part in were hockey, baseball and rugby and he enjoyed woodwork. Douglas worked at Maher Shoe Store, Kitchener as a shoe salesman 1940-1943. |
He enlisted on 27 August 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 25 May 1944, arriving at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 3 June. He was then at 22 OTU 11 July 1944, 61 Base 18 October 1944 and 415 Squadron on 13 January 1945. Sadly, Douglas then lost his life on 10 April 1945 aged 20 years. |
