In memoriam August 12, 1941 - Flt Lt G.I. Lewis - Flt Sgt N.S. Cardell - Flt Sgt J. C. Woods - 226 Sqn Non sibi sed patriae Edmond De Decker - Phiippine Op 12 Augustus 1941 stortte een Blenheim Bomber V5859 neer in de Vergaretpolder, waarbij alle drie de bemanningsleden en een plaatselijke burger omkwamen. Het was een van de 56 bommenwerpers die deel namen aan de eerste aanval overdag op Duitsland, waarbij de elektriciteitscentrales in Keulen werden gebombardeerd

On August 12th 1941, a Blenheim Bomber V5859 crashed in Vergaertpolder killing all three crew and a local civilian. It was one of 56 Bombers which took part in the first daytime attack on Germany, bombing the power stations at Cologne" |
