Miscellaneous Information
Born on 23 October 1921 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Poland and was a Retail Merchant and his mother was born in New York. David attended Elmwood School 1928-1936, a Primary school, and then sat his Senior Matric 1936-1940, where he studied academic subjects. David worked at Ben’s Clothier in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, as a Sales Clerk from July to December 1940. He had earlier enlisted with the R.C.A.F. and was with them from December 1940 until October 1941 when he elected to be discharged. His discharge papers said he had become unfit for his "Special Duties" but does not elaborate. He was back working as a Sales Clerk again at Ben’s, 1941 -1942 but had to leave when the shop was sold. David then went to work at Klings Store, as a Sales Clerk from May 1942 until enlisting. At this time David was staying in the Y.M.C.A. in Winnipeg. The address of his parents was Box 939, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. |
He enlisted on 9 December 1942 and after the usual training Embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944. After arrival in the U.K. he went to 3 RCAF PRC on 15 March 1944, 2 (O) AFU, 83 OTU, 9 May 1944, 82 OTU 29 June 1944, 61 Base on 18 October 1944 and then 1664 CU on 8 November 1944. He was killed a little over a month afterwards. |
He took part In rugby, basketball.skiing and swimming. He also had a certificate for First Aid from St.John’s Ambulance. |
