Miscellaneous Information
Adrian was born at Notre Dame de Lourdes, Rose Isle, Manitoba, on 31 March 1925. Both parents were born in Manitoba, his father, a farmer, was born in Somerset and his mother in Rathwell. He had a brother Leo. He went to school at St. Claude, Manitoba, 1934-1942. His sport interests were riding, baseball, hunting and football. Adrian had no occupation but worked on several local farms at harvesting time, including threshing and tractor work for Barron Brothers at St. Claude. |
He enlisted on 23 February 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 3 May 1944, arriving at 3PRC 11 May. He then continued to 10 (0) AFU on 30 May 1944, 3 PRC again on 4 July 1944, 86 OTU 11 July 1944, 61 Base 27 September 1944, 429 Squadron 7 February 1945. Very sadly this young man was to lose his life on 6 March 1945 shortly before his 20th birthday . |

Operation | Chemnitz- continuation of Operation Thunderclap. 760 aircraft. Severe icing conditions over home bases cost 9 aircraft, especially from 426 Sqn. A further 22 aircraft were lost on the operation. The centre and south of the city were badly damaged by fire. Several important factories were destroyed, including the Siegmar tank engine plant. |
