Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Guelph, Ontario on 2 September 1921. His father was born in Toronto and he worked as a Railway Conductor, his mother was born in Guelph. He had one sister Adele Patricia. The schools he attended were St. Stanislaus and St. James and St Clare's between 1927-1932, followed by Guelph Collegiate 1933-1938. John had a variety of sport interests including rugby, softball, hockey and tennis and he enjoyed building model aircraft. During 1939-1940 he worked as a clerk at the Royal Hotel and he took various jobs during the summer. |
On 22 June 1940 John enlisted and after training embarked for the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on 20 April 1941. From there he went to 2 S.S. 28 April 1941, 21 OTU on 13 July 1941 and 115 Squadron on 14 September 1941. Less than two weeks later, just days after his 20th birthday, John very sadly lost his life. . |
