Miscellaneous Information
James was born on 28 August 1917 at Brûlé , Alberta. Both parents were born in Scotland and his father worked as a coal miner. He had two brothers Malcolm and David, both of whom had sadly died young. David 1914-1918 and Malcom by 1922. James attended the School in Evansberg, Alberta 1924-1933 (grade 8), followed by 1933-1936 (Grade 9 and part 10 and 11). His sport interests were baseball, softball and hockey. During 1936 he took on odd jobs as a carpenter and following that worked as a driver at Pembina Mine in Entwistle, Alberta (1936-1939). He was working as a miner at Hinton between 1939-1941 when it closed down. James then worked as a mechanic at Lamond Garage during 1941 until enlisting on 3 December 1941. |
James embarked from Canada on 28 October 1942, arriving in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 6 November 1942, 7 AGS 23 January 1943, 1657 CU 14 March 1943 and 218 Squadron on 14 April 1943. He sadly lost his life the following month on 26 May 1943. |
