Miscellaneous Information
John was born in Toronto 6 May 1921. He was known as Art. His father was a cashier at the Municipal Offices, York Township, and both he and his mother (known as Nettie) were born in Kirkintilloch, Scotland. He had two sister, Norma and Sheila. John married Roma Maxine (Crane) in Toronto on 28 April 1943. The schools John attended were John R. Wilcox 1928-1935 (General) then Vaughan Road Collegiate, 1935-1937 (Matric). He also took a Correspondence Course with Shaw’s Schools 1938-1939 in accounting. The sports he indulged in were baseball and hockey. John’s occupation was Bookkeeping and he worked from 1937-1940 for Presbyterian Publications. He then spent a few months with a couple more firms before enlisting. |
He enlisted on 29 August 1941 and embarked for the U.K. after initial training. He arrived at 3 PRC on 10 June 1943, 23 OTU 28 September 1943, 1659 CU 17 February 1944 and 425 Squadron on 18 March 1944. He was killed two months later. |
