Start Date | 20-02-1945 |
End Date | 21-02-1945 |
Takeoff Station | Skipton on Swale |
Day/Night Raid | Night (68% moon) |
Operation | Dortmund- to attack the southern half of the city. 528 aircraft, 14 Lancasters lost. The southern half of the city was destroyed. The air-raid recording seems to have broken down completely by this point as there are no details of this raid. |
Reason for Loss | Hit by flak on the bombing run and then by a night-fighter. Both starboard engines failed along with the hydraulic pressure. The pilot was able to make for the Allied lines and the order to bale out was given. Five crew made good their escape, two of whom drifted back into enemy territory and became PoW. The pilot made a notable force=landing and was awarded a DFM. |
