Miscellaneous Information
Walter was born on 1 February 1923 at Ludlow, Massachusetts , USA. Both parents were born in Darazno, Poland and both were US Citizens. He had a brother Edward. He attended Bridge Street school in Westbrook, Maine, 1930-1937 followed by Westbrook High 1937-1941. Walter worked as a Station attendant in Maine in 1941 and was a labourer (nights) 1940-1941 for Dana Ward Mills 1940-1941, both in Westbrook. He also had a short spell at Ford Motors , Detroit in tool and die making. His sport interests were baseball, football, hockey and bowling. |
He enlisted on 14 November 1941 (while the US was neutral) and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 20 July 1942, arriving at 3PRC on 30 July 1942 before going on to 7 AGS 15 September 1942, 14 OTU 6 October 1942, 1659 CU 20 February 1943 and 408 Squadron on 11 March 1943. Sadly this young American, at the age of just twenty, was to lose his life on 30 March 1943. |
